The San Francisco 49ers held their second open practice of OTAs on Wednesday, and there were several noteworthy plays on both sides of the football. I'm obligated to share my annual reminder that friends don't let friends overreact -- positively or negatively -- to what happens during OTAs. This is meant merely as some quick bullets to keep you in the know of what's happening during the team's offseason program.

With that, here's the rundown of what transpired on Wednesday.

1. George Kittle made three contested touchdown catches during red zone work. Two were quick slants at the goal line, one from Jimmy Garoppolo and the other from Nick Mullens. Kittle's third touchdown reception was a full-extension grab in the back middle of the end zone.

2. Tevin Coleman showcased his speed during the first full-team drill. He took a stretch play to the right, got the corner and turned on the jets up the sideline. A few of his teammates reacted to Coleman's top-end speed on the carry. San Francisco expects Coleman to be an explosive part of the offense in 2019.

3. Mullens connected with Kittle and Deebo Samuel on deep throws to the left during the first team period. Samuel took off up the right sideline on a jet sweep in the same drill. The rookie has been very active in both open practices thus far.

4. Richard Sherman nearly picked off Mullens on a throw towards Dante Pettis on the right sideline. Sherman jumped it perfectly but bobbled it briefly before regaining control. After practice, Sherman said he kept his heels in bounds. Unfortunately, challenge flags are not permitted in practice.

5. David Mayo had a fantastic 7-on-7 red zone period. The linebacker almost made a diving interception of a Mullens pass intended for Ross Dwelley. On the very next snap, Mayo tipped another pass, this time from Mullens to Kendrick Bourne.

6. Mullens rebounded in the same drill with back-to-back touchdown passes to Bourne and Dwelley, respectively.

7. The defense overall was very stout in the red zone in both full-team and 7-on-7 periods. There were several would-be sacks due to coverage and due to the pass rush getting home. Dee Ford showed off his first-step quickness, Elijah Lee blitzed up the middle into the backfield and Jaquiski Tartt broke up a pass in the back of the end zone. Marcell Harris was another defensive back who had a near interception.

8. There was an obvious juice on both sides of the football on Wednesday. The defense was chirping after every play, and the offense was sure to embellish every touchdown. It all had the feeling of a fun, productive and competitive practice by OTA standards.

9. C.J. Beathard threw a touchdown to Kyle Juszczyk on a play-action pass from 5-yards out. Beathard also hit Dwelley for a 5-yard touchdown.

10. Garoppolo closed practice with long completions in the middle of the field to Pettis and Bourne before one final touchdown, this one to Jordan Matthews in the back right corner of the end zone.
