ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Thursday announced that Jason Belser, Lamar Owens and Will Tukuafu will join the team during training camp as part of the Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship.
Belser is in his first-year as a consultant at Independence High School in South Riding, Va., after spending the 2017-18 seasons as the head coach at Freedom High School (South Riding). He entered the coaching ranks following his 11-year playing career as a safety with Indianapolis (1992-2000) and Kansas City (2001-2002).
Selected by the Colts in the eighth round (197th overall) of the 1992 NFL Draft from the University of Oklahoma, Belser totaled 840 tackles (656 solo), nine sacks (59 yds.), 14 interceptions (338 yds., 3 TDs) and 55 passes defensed during his professional career.
Owens is entering his first season as the assistant wide receivers coach at Georgia Southern University after spending the last 11 seasons with Georgia Tech. In 2018, he was invited to participate in the American Football Coaches Association’s 35 Under 35 Coaches’ Leadership Institute and spent part of training camp on the San Francisco 49ers’ coaching staff as part of the Walsh Fellowship.
Tukuafu appeared in 50 games (4 starts) as a fullback and defensive lineman with San Francisco (2011-13) and Seattle (2014-16) after entering the NFL as a college free agent from the University of Oregon with the Seahawks in 2010.
