ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos continued their GM search Saturday as they interviewed New England's Dave Ziegler.

Ziegler, the Patriots' assistant director of player personnel, is the third candidate to interview for the Broncos' open general manager position. Minnesota's George Paton and Chicago's Champ Kelly interviewed on Friday.

Ziegler has spent the last eight years with the Patriots in a variety of roles. He served as the assistant director of pro scouting from 2013-15 and was then promoted to director of pro personnel from 2016-19 before assuming his current role in 2020.

Before joining New England, Ziegler spent a brief stint in Denver as a Broncos player personnel assistant/area scout in 2011 and a pro scout in 2012.

"Because Bill Belichick is the final decision-maker, it's hard to identify one move and say, 'This was all Dave Ziegler,'" ESPN's Mike Reiss told DenverBroncos.com. "That's just not the way the Patriots work. But for those behind the scenes, a picture has been painted to me that Ziegler is always well prepared on a daily basis, and when a need arises, he puts the organization in the best spot to fill it decisively."

Ziegler has not been linked to other NFL jobs in this cycle but could be an in-house candidate to replace Nick Caserio in New England after he accepted the Texans' general manager position.

Denver will reportedly also interview New Orleans' Terry Fontenot and in-house candidate Brian Stark for the team's GM role.
