ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos have completed an interview with Minnesota's George Paton for their open general manager position.

Paton, the Vikings' vice president of player personnel/assistant general manager, is the first of Denver's candidates to interview for the position.

He has spent the past 14 seasons with the Vikings, including the last six in his current position. Paton has also worked for the Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears.

"George Paton is one of the universally respected personnel men in the entire NFL," NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero told DenverBroncos.com. "[He's] somebody who — whether you talk to people who are friends with him, people who have competed against him, people who just know him from scouting on the road — nobody has a bad word to say about him."

Since Paton joined the Vikings in 2007, Minnesota has either acquired or re-signed 26 players with a combined 55 Pro Bowl appearances with the team.

Paton has interviewed with several NFL teams in recent years, including the Colts and 49ers in 2017 and the Browns in 2020.

Denver will reportedly interview four other candidates: Chicago's Champ Kelly, New England's Dave Ziegler, New Orleans' Terry Fontenot and in-house candidate Brian Stark.
