CHARLOTTE - Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey has been selected as one of 32 nominees for the 2019 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award.

Each NFL team selects a deserving nominee for the sixth annual award which recognizes players who best demonstrate the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition.

McCaffrey's teammate, linebacker Luke Kuechly, won the award in the 2017.

This season, McCaffrey has compiled a record-breaking season at running back. McCaffrey leads the NFL with his 109.9 rushing yards per game and is tied for the league lead with 14 total touchdowns. He also leads the NFL with 153.9 scrimmage yards per game and is second among running backs with 48 receptions. He is on pace to set franchise records in a number of categories.

The award was created in 2014 in honor of the late founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pro Football Hall of Famer Art Rooney, Sr. A panel of former players, including Warrick Dunn, Curtis Martin, Karl Mecklenburg and Leonard Wheeler, will select eight finalists with four from the NFC and AFC. The eight finalists will then be voted upon by the players on their Pro Bowl ballot on December 13.

The winner will be announced at NFL Honors on February 1, 2020.
