The Lead
It's not every day that you hit a shot better than Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
That's what former Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning did, though, on the 16th hole at The Medalist Golf Club on Sunday during "The Match: Champions for Charity."
The rain-soaked event, which featured Manning and Woods against Mickelson and Tom Brady in a team format, raised more than $20 million for COVID-19 relief efforts. Manning and Woods won the match-play event by a single hole.
Back to the 16th hole: Manning stuck his tee shot to inside of two feet, and his shot was the closest to the pin. Mickelson and Brady also put their tee shots within 12 feet, which led Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson to donate 300,000 meals to those in need during the COVID-19 crisis.
Manning also holed a couple of birdie putts on the front nine to help his team jump out to a lead. Manning and Woods never trailed during the event.
And while Manning didn't hole a shot from more than 150 yards like Brady did, the former Bronco was the far more consistent player on the day.
If we're counting the 2015 AFC Championship, Manning is now 2-0 in his last two appearances against Brady.
