In 1990, outside linebacker Robert Quinn was born. Quinn signed with the Bears in March after spending his first nine NFL seasons with the Rams (2011-17), Dolphins (2018) and Cowboys (2019). The two-time Pro Bowler has recorded 80.5 career sacks, including 11.5 in 14 games with Dallas last year.
In 1966, former tight end Keith Jennings was born. Jennings appeared in 82 games with 61 starts over seven seasons with the Bears from 1991-97, catching 101 passes for 1,035 yards and 10 touchdowns. He established career highs in 1995 when he had 25 receptions and scored six TDs.
In 2017, the Bears Care Gala was held in the United Club at Soldier Field. The annual black-tie event benefits breast and ovarian cancer research treatment programs in Chicago.
In 1940, former defensive end Ed O'Bradovich was born. The Chicago area native starred at Illinois before spending his entire 10-year NFL career with the Bears from 1962-71. Selected by the Bears in the seventh round of the 1962 draft, he started all 14 games in five of his final six seasons. In the 1963 NFL Championship Game, O'Bradovich helped set up the Bears' winning touchdown in a 14-10 victory over the Giants with an interception.
In 1980, former fullback Jason McKie was born. McKie spent seven seasons with the Bears from 2003-09, appearing in 87 games with 46 starts. He rushed for 84 yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries and caught 67 passes for 357 yards and three TDs. McKie was a member of the 2006 NFC championship team that lost to the Colts in Super Bowl XLI.
In 1995, Hall of Famer Danny Fortmann passed away at the age of 79. Selected by the Bears in the ninth and final round of the first NFL Draft in 1936, Fortmann was named All-NFL six times in eight seasons with the team. He helped the Bears win three league championships in four seasons (1940, 1941 and 1943) and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1965.
In 1919, George Halas was on the New York Yankees roster when they beat the Chicago White Sox 2-1 at Comiskey Park. Halas played in 12 games with the Yankees before being sent down to the minor leagues in July. A year later—after a hip injury had ended his baseball career—he helped found the Bears and the NFL.
