EAGAN, Minn. — There was only an hour or so left in the Vikings final minicamp practice of the 2019 offseason when Davion Davis decided to make a splash.

Check that … he actually made three.

The undrafted rookie wide receiver started his highlight-reel afternoon with a leaping catch over the middle when he high-pointed a Kyle Sloter pass with multiple defenders around him. The play drew plenty of loud cheers from the offensive players on the sideline.

Davis then hauled in a 41-yard reception over his shoulder down the right sideline as he managed to stay in bounds on a pass by Sean Mannion. He then drew a 20-yard pass interference call on the next play.

He then saved his best for last, Davis snared a tipped pass with his fingertips just inches from the turf to draw more reaction from his teammates.

Now as he settles in for his first NFL training camp, Davis is hoping to build on how he ended spring drills.

“It really boosted my confidence, seeing all the vets get hyped about it,” Davis said. “It really brought me up and displayed what I could do for the coaches and for the team.

“It was eye-opening for me, and I came in here more confident,” Davis added. “I really do help it carries over, and I’m going to do everything I can to keep working.”

Davis played collegiately at Sam Houston State, where he caught 40 career touchdowns for the Bearkats.

He’s been with Minnesota since early May and is in the mix of players fighting for roster spots at wide receiver behind Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs.

Davis said he was glad to arrive in camp early for extra work, and hopes he can get a little better each and every day.

“It was kind of hectic at first, but going through the playbook and stuff, I started getting stuff down so it started coming easier to me,” Davis said. “But it’s fun, and I’m really enjoying it. I can’t wait … to keep learning from all the vets and keep improving my game.”
