GREEN BAY – The Packers used their first-round draft pick Thursday night to address the cornerback position, taking Georgia's Eric Stokes with the No. 29 overall pick.

Stokes, a 6-1, 185-pound speedster who clocked a pair of sub-4.3 times at Georgia's pro day, did not have a college interception until last season, but then picked off four passes and returned two for touchdowns.

A first-team All-Southeastern Conference pick in 2020 after earning second-team honors in 2019, Stokes began his college career playing with fellow Bulldog corner Deandre Baker, a first-round pick in 2019.

That season, Stokes led Georgia with nine passes broken up before getting all the picks last year.

The Packers are planning to exercise their fifth-year option on CB Jaire Alexander soon, but their next two corners – Kevin King and Chandon Sullivan – are on one-year deals for 2021. King re-signed as an unrestricted free agent, and Sullivan signed a restricted free agent tender.

That put cornerback on the radar as an important future consideration for the Packers in this draft, and they addressed it right away.
