The Bears on Wednesday re-signed long-snapper Patrick Scales to a one-year contract.
Scales, 31, has appeared in 37 games in four seasons with the Bears. He served as the team’s long-snapper in the final five contests in 2015 and all 16 contests in 2016 before missing the entire 2017 season with a torn ACL he sustained in the third preseason game. Scales returned to play in all 16 games last season.
Before joining the Bears, Scales appeared in two regular-season games and two playoff contests with the Ravens in 2014. He entered the NFL in 2011 with Baltimore as an undrafted free agent from Utah State and also has spent time with the Dolphins, Jets and Buccaneers.
Scales is the eighth Bears player the team has re-signed since the end of last season, joining right tackle Bobby Massie, outside linebacker Aaron Lynch, tight end Ben Braunecker, punter Pat O'Donnell, quarterback Tyler Bray, safety DeAndre Houston-Carson and defensive tackle Nick Williams.
In addition, the Bears have inked six players from other NFL teams since the start of the new league year March 13: Receiver/return specialist Cordarrelle Patterson (Patriots), running back Mike Davis (Seahawks), nickel back Buster Skrine (Jets), safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (Redskins), offensive lineman Ted Larsen (Dolphins) and receiver Marvin Hall (Falcons).
In other news, Bears free-agent running back Benny Cunningham signed with the Jaguars on Tuesday. Cunningham had appeared in 29 games with the Bears the past two seasons, rushing for 49 yards on 20 carries, catching 21 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns and registering eight special-teams tackles.
