The Bears on Thursday traded running back Jordan Howard to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a 2020 sixth-round draft pick. Conditions of the trade could potentially flex the pick to a 2020 fifth-rounder.
Selected by the Bears in the fifth round of the 2016 draft out of Indiana, Howard appeared in 47 games with 44 starts in three seasons, rushing for 3,370 yards and 24 touchdowns on 778 carries and catching 72 passes for 568 yards and one TD.
Howard's 3,370 career yards rank seventh on the Bears’ all-time rushing list and are the third most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2016 behind the Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott (4,048) and the Rams' Todd Gurley (3,441).
In 2016, Howard set a Bears rookie rushing record and ranked second in the NFL with 1,313 yards. He became the franchise’s first rookie running back to be voted to the Pro Bowl since Hall of Famer Gale Sayers in 1965.
In 2017, Howard became the first Bears running back to rush for at least 1,000 yards in each of his first two NFL seasons. He also became the fastest Bears player to rush for 2,000 yards, accomplishing the feat in 24 games—edging Hall of Famers Walter Payton (26) and Sayers (28).
Last season Howard rushed for 935 yards and a team-leading nine touchdowns on 250 carries and caught 20 passes for 145 yards.
Howard’s 13 100-yard rushing games are tied for the third most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2016.
