Butt will undergo a minor clean-up procedure on his left knee, and with roster cuts looming, he faces the possibility of landing on injured reserve for a third consecutive season.


In a message posted on social media, however, Butt said he is confident he will be able to return quickly and be able to stay on the field, just as he did following a similar procedure after his first ACL injury in college.

“It was hot, man, so damn hot,” the Broncos’ Hall of Fame running back recalled. “It was 110 degrees — we called it a ‘dollar-and-a-dime’ — with smog. It got to a point that guys were going to quit.


“Man, Coach had us doing 10 100-yard dashes, with our equipment on, at the end of two-a-days. Now, that was old-school football. Guys lost their lunch.”
