The Broncos have used three draft picks in the past four years on tight ends -- Jeff Heuerman (2015), Jake Butt (2017) and Troy Fumagali (2018) -- and all three have missed at least one season with injuries. Butt has now missed most of his first two NFL seasons after being held out of his rookie season recovering from an ACL tear in his final college game, and then he suffered another ACL tear in 2018. Offenses are exploiting tight end matchups throughout the league, and Denver would like to join that production party. So if the Broncos don't dive in with the No. 10 pick -- and Iowa's T.J. Hockenson is the only TE on the board worth that pick -- look for them to take a look later on at prospects such as San Diego State's Kahale Warring, Mississippi's Dawson Knox or Texas A&M's Jace Sternberger.

Oh, Haskins would be tempting, if available for the taking at No. 10. He can sling it. But a linebacker, whether it is Devin White of Louisiana State or Devin Bush of Michigan, makes much more sense for the Broncos.

The primary issue, outside of who the Broncos will take, which Elway wouldn’t touch, was the possibility of moving out of the top 10. Oakland traded the 10th pick to Arizona last year (used to select quarterback Josh Rosen). In return, the Raiders received the Cardinals’ first- (No. 15), third- (No. 79) and fifth-round (No. 152) picks. That kind of deal, moving only five spots south and gaining a third-rounder, could be enticing to Elway if he believes the same quality of player can be had at No. 15.
