The Cardinals are bringing home a familiar face.


The team signed cornerback Prince Amukamara to the practice squad Tuesday, giving them a veteran option in case of injury or COVID. To make room, the Cardinals cut wide receiver Jaron Brown from the practice squad.


Amukamara grew up in Glendale and attended Glendale Apollo High School. He received a Cardinals High School Player of the Week award in 2006, before going to play at the University of Nebraska.


In his nine-year career, Amukamara has played in 113 games, starting 99 of them with the Bears, Jaguars and Giants. He has 10 career interceptions and 78 passes defensed.


He played last season in Chicago, and was with the Raiders in training camp before they released him prior to the season. He started all 15 games in played in 2019, and 42 of the 44 games in which he appeared with the Bears.


The Cardinals have stayed healthy at cornerback this season, with their top three of Patrick Peterson, Byron Murphy and Dre Kirkpatrick. But Amukamara is now the second veteran secondary piece the Cardinals have decided to bring on to the practice squad. The team signed former Pro Bowl safety T.J. Ward to the practice squad earlier this month.
