The Cardinals added a reserve quarterback option on Thursday, signing Cole McDonald to a future contract for the 2021 season.


McDonald was a seventh-round pick by the Titans in the 2020 draft after starting for two seasons at the University of Hawaii. He was waived by Tennessee before the season began and did not latch on with another team.


The Cardinals worked McDonald out in the final week of the regular season after he had a short stint with the Conquerors of The Spring League.


While Kyler Murray is the unquestioned starter, the team generally carries four quarterbacks on its offseason roster. Chris Streveler is under contract for 2021, while Brett Hundley is an impending free agent.


McDonald ran a 4.58-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting combine last February, the fastest among quarterbacks. He threw for 4,135 yards with 33 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in his final season at Hawaii.
