The Cardinals will be hosting another regular-season game in Mexico City, the NFL announced Friday, 15 years after playing the home team in the league's first game there.
The opponent, date, and time are yet to be announced.
The game will replace a home game for the Cardinals on the 2020 schedule, a necessary concession after the Valley and State Farm Stadium were awarded the Super Bowl after the 2022 season.
"Two years ago when the NFL awarded Super Bowl LVII to Arizona and State Farm Stadium, we understood the requirement of hosting an international game before 2023," Cardinals chairman and president Michael Bidwill said in a statement. "We are thrilled to learn that this game will take place at Estadio Azteca where we received such an enthusiastic reception in 2005. We are extremely grateful for the support we receive from fans in Mexico and look forward to an incredible experience."
The Cardinals' home opponents in 2020 are the Seahawks, 49ers, Rams, Lions, Bills, Dolphins, Redskins, and Eagles.
The last time the Cards played in Mexico, they beat the San Francisco 49ers, 31-14, in front of a then-NFL record crowd of 103,467. It was the first regular-season NFL game played outside the United States.
The Cardinals also played outside the country in London against the Rams in 2017 in a regular-season game. They have played preseason games against the Chargers in Japan in 1976 and in London against the Vikings in 1983.
Mexico City and Estadio Azteca has hosted three games over the last four seasons. Last year, the eventual Super Bowl champion Chiefs beat the Chargers there, 24-17. The site has also hosted games between the Patriots and Raiders in 2017 and the Texans and Raiders in 2016.
The full NFL schedule is announced sometime in mid-April.
