INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Colts today claimed safety Derrick Kindred off waivers (from Cleveland).
Kindred, 5-10, 210 pounds, played in 42 games (17 starts) over the last three seasons (2016-18) with the Cleveland Browns and totaled 137 tackles (100 solo), 10.0 tackles for loss, 12 passes defensed, two interceptions, one forced fumble and 11 special teams stops. Kindred was originally selected by the Browns in the fourth round (129th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft out of TCU.
In 2018, Kindred played in all 16 games (two starts) and finished with 38 tackles (28 solo), one pass defensed, one interception, one forced fumble and seven special teams stops. He started a career-high 10 games in 2017 and finished with 55 tackles (42 solo), 10.0 tackles for loss, six passes defensed, one interception and two special teams stops. His 10.0 tackles for loss tied for first among NFL defensive backs in 2017. As a rookie, he appeared in 12 games (five starts) and accumulated 44 tackles (30 solo), five passes defensed and also added two special teams stops.
