Former Broncos LB Al Wilson elected to College Football Hall of Fame

Former Broncos linebacker Al Wilson has been elected to the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Football Foundation announced Monday.


Wilson, a former first-round pick who played eight years in Denver, was a key piece of Tennessee's 1998 national championship team.


During the 1998 season, Wilson was a first-team All-American, a finalist for the Nagurski Trophy and a first-team All-SEC player. He also earned second-team All-SEC honors as a junior.


Wilson helped the Volunteers to back-to-back SEC titles, four bowl games and four top 10 finishes during his career in Knoxville.


He finished his career with 272 total tackles.


For three of his four seasons with the Vols, he played alongside former Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. He now joins Manning in the College Football Hall of Fame.


After his Tennessee career, Wilson joined the Broncos as the 31st-overall selection in the 1999 NFL Draft. He went on to make five Pro Bowls and earn a first-team All-Pro nod during Denver's run to the AFC Championship in 2005.


Wilson totaled five interceptions, 46 passes defensed, eight forced fumbles, 21.5 sacks and 723 tackles during his eight-year career in Denver and was named to the Broncos' Top 100 in 2019.


He joins T Harris Barton, DB David Fulcher, LB Dan Morgan, QB Carson Palmer, QB Tony Romo, DT Kenneth Sims, RB/KR C.J. Spiller, RB Darren Sproles, T Aaron Taylor, DE Andre Tippett and coaches Rudy Hubbard and Bob Stoops in the College Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2021.
