Helmet decals honoring Pat Bowlen added before start of training camp

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Ahead of the start of training camp, the Broncos added “Mr. B” decals to their helmets to honor former Broncos Owner Pat Bowlen, who passed away on June 13 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.


The decals will be on team’s helmets for the duration of the season.


Broncos President and CEO Joe Ellis originally announced the intention to add a decal on June 17, saying that Mr.Bowlen deserved such an honor even though he often preferred to stay behind the scenes.


“I do think we owe to him to honor him in that way,” Ellis said.


Ellis also said at the time that the team has other plans in the works to remember the contributions Mr.Bowlen made during his 35-year career as the team’s owner.


“We will do something briefly before the game at our first regular-season game,” Ellis said. “… Then I believe the second weekend of October is our game against Tennessee (Oct. 13) and we will honor he and Champ Bailey — he, for his Hall of Fame appearance, and Champ for his Hall of Fame and Ring of Fame appearances. That’ll be a nice moment. We’ll bring a lot of people back together here in Denver because not everybody can make it to Canton. Those are the things that are planned for him.”
