Analysis: "This RD1 pick for Indy (of the 9 overall they hold) could be its most monumental selection in years. That's incredible, considering they just had a #1, monumental pick a mere 8 years ago when Andrew Luck was the selection. With Luck gone, the passing offense was in a shambles last season, partly due to injuries to QB Jacoby Brissett and many of his receivers). Indy's surprising early success (a 5-2 start) devolved into a sputtering mess. The Colts have tweaked their coaching staff to help reconfigure the passing offense --which was structured around Luck. Offensively, the Colts couldn't "light up the scoreboard" as they had previously. Especially atrocious was 3rd down, as the Colts converted just 42% at home, and a horrid 32% on the road. The pressure on GM Chris Ballard may be too great not to move on from Jacoby Brissett. However, Ballard might be sold on building up the defensive side of the ball that he likely views as two or so impact players away from being an extremely-solid unit. Free Agency is a possibility (and over $85M in cap space), but not the road Ballard usually chooses to travel. However, this off-season may force his hand to target a veteran QB. The Colts anticipate that current starting LT Anthony Castonzo will return, but should he actually go through with his possible thoughts on retirement, Ballard sticks to his penchant for building in the trenches through the draft. The addition of OT Mekhi Becton would be most appropriate in RD1. Becton is a mountain of a man, standing 6' 7" and around 365-370 lbs. Physical, long and athletic, he played both Right and Left Tackle at Louisville. All of the "boxes" GM Chris Ballard desires are checked with Becton. The Colts need to pull the trigger to secure the Offensive Line for the next decade --even if Anthony Castonzo does sign and return. This pick really is a no-brainer, no matter if it's ultimately Brissett or a new QB at the helm in Indy."
