The NFL has released its list of the 337 prospects who have been invited to participate in the Scouting Combine February 24-March 1 in Indianapolis.
The group is comprised of 17 quarterbacks, 30 running backs, 55 receivers, 20 tight ends, 52 offensive linemen, 46 defensive linemen, 44 linebackers, 61 defensive backs and 12 specialists.
The prospects will be poked, prodded, timed, weighed and interviewed at the annual event, which is held at Lucas Oil Stadium and the Indiana Convention Center.
They'll participate in position drills and be timed in the 40-yard dash, three-cone drill and shuttle run; tested in the vertical jump and broad jump; and asked to bench-press 225 pounds as many times as they can. This year the NFL has moved the on-field drills from morning and afternoon to afternoon and prime-time in an attempt to attract a larger television audience.
Medical examinations are a key aspect of the Combine. Players who have suffered injuries in college typically are sent to a nearby hospital for an X-ray, and those who've had surgery are usually asked to undergo an MRI test.
The players also are administered the Wonderlic test, an exam of problem-solving ability that measures intelligence. Participants have 12 minutes to answer 50 questions. One of the questions might ask: "A train travels 20 feet in 1/5 second. At this same speed, how many feet will it travel in three seconds?"
The Bears will be well-represented at the Combine, with general manager Ryan Pace and coach Matt Nagy joined by assistant coaches; staffers from the college scouting, pro personnel and video departments; and doctors, trainers and strength coaches.
The prospects will be available for media interviews from 8-11 a.m. (ET) by position with quarterbacks, receivers and tight ends on Tuesday, Feb. 25; running backs, offensive linemen and kickers on Wednesday, Feb. 26; defensive linemen and linebackers on Thursday, Feb. 27; and defensive backs on Friday, Feb. 28.
According to Sports Illustrated's Kevin Hanson, the top 10 prospects in the 2020 draft are 1) Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young; 2) LSU quarterback Joe Burrow; 3) Ohio State cornerback Jeffrey Okudah; 4) Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown; 5) Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa; 6) Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons; 7) Alabama receiver Jerry Jeudy; 8) Oklahoma receiver CeeDee Lamb; 9) Alabama tackle Jedrick Wills; and 10) Georgia tackle Andrew Thomas.
The Bears do not own a first-round pick in the 2020 draft, having packaged it in a blockbuster trade to acquire perennial Pro Bowl outside linebacker Khalil Mack in 2018.
The Bears currently have seven selections in the draft. Their first two choices will be No. 43 and No. 50 overall in the second round. The No. 43 selection is one they received from the Raiders in the Mack trade. The Bears also have their own picks in the fifth, sixth and seventh rounds as well as a fifth-rounder from the Raiders in the Mack deal and a fifth- or sixth-rounder from the Eagles they received in exchange for running back Jordan Howard.
The Bears included their 2020 third-round pick in the Mack deal and traded their 2020 fourth-round choice to the Patriots to move up to select running back David Montgomery in the third round of the 2019 draft. The Bears may also receive a compensatory pick, possibly in the fourth round, based on net loss of free agents last year.
