The quest to win the NFC West could've been boosted Sunday, after the Seahawks were upset by the Giants -- but only if the Cardinals beat the Rams at State Farm Stadium.

That not only didn't happen, the Cards struggled much of the game in a disappointing 38-28 loss.

The Cardinals (6-6) are for the moment outside of the playoff picture after starting the season 5-2, following the Vikings' win that put Minnesota at .500.

Kyler Murray threw three touchdown passes but had a crucial interception returned for a touchdown with the Rams (8-4) leading by 10 midway through the fourth quarter, ballooning the lead to an unscalable height.

The Cardinals had touchdown drives on the first possession of either half, but beyond that couldn't move the ball -- a bad combination that had trouble slowing the Rams' offense most of the game.

Until the final drive of the first half, the Cardinals had only 62 yards of offense, and 59 came on a touchdown pass from Murray to tight end Dan Arnold to open the game. The were outgained in the game, 463-232, and the 232 yards was Arizona's season low. Three of their four worst offensive games this season have come during this current three-game losing streak.

Rams quarterback Jared Goff threw for 351 yards as Rams coach Sean McVay ran his record against Arizona to 7-0 since taking over in Los Angeles.
