Packers Give Back supporting eight more Milwaukee County organizations with COVID-19 community relief funds

The Green Bay Packers announced today that they have distributed eight more grants through the Packers Give Back COVID-19 Community Relief Fund to Milwaukee County nonprofit organizations.


The eight grants to Milwaukee County groups are in addition to the 16 grants that were distributed with the first round of funds last month, as grant applications have been accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. A total of $500,000 has been established for organizations providing support to Milwaukee County residents facing challenges caused by the pandemic, with future grants through the fund to be announced at a later date.


Since the fund was established, 24 grants have been given to 24 different Milwaukee County groups that are on the front lines of helping those most impacted by the pandemic, including organizations addressing food and hygiene needs, housing assistance, transportation, medication and other basic needs. Recipients range from schools and food pantries to homeless shelters and organizations serving individuals with disabilities. The eight new groups receiving grants include:

• Adult Learning Center: This center, which is dedicated to helping adults gain the basic academic skills necessary to earn a GED, will use the funds from the grant toward purchasing Chromebooks for use by all ALC students and tutors to aid launch of ALL Together Online.
• Friedens Community Ministries: This network of food pantries will use the grant toward purchasing food and supplies for their pantries.
• IndependenceFirst, Inc.: Milwaukee's first resource for people with disabilities of all kinds, IndependenceFirst will put the grant toward purchasing laptop computers for staff to keep them working with consumers from their homes.
• Milwaukee Health Service, Inc.: This community health center, which provides accessible, primary and related health care services, will direct the grant to support the community-led initiative to conquer COVID-19 in the central city of Milwaukee, including wraparound services.
• Neu-Life Community Development Inc.: This organization is committed to empowering children and youth with skills and strategies to make better life choices. It will use the grant to purchase technology and training to improve 30 Youth Work Innovation Center participants' access to tech and the internet.
• Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order Inc.: This grant will go toward food purchases for St. Ben's and the House of Peace through the Emergency Food Pantry and the Meal Service.
• Sixteenth Street Community Health Center: These centers, which provides the highest quality medical, behavioral health and substance use care to every person who walks through the doors, will use the funds to support its Patient Relief Fund.
• Sojourner Foundation Inc.: This organization provides domestic violence prevention and intervention services, and the grant will help address the needs of domestic violence survivors and their families through emergency crisis services.

The $500,000 is part of the $1.5 million COVID-19 Community Relief Fund established by Packers Give Back. The additional $1 million is being directed to Brown County organizations through the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation; a portion of those funds have already been distributed to 10 Brown County nonprofit groups to address food and hygiene needs, housing assistance, transportation, medication and other basic needs.
