The Bears on Saturday waived running back Mike Davis and tight end Bradley Sowell and promoted running back Ryan Nall and outside linebacker James Vaughters from the practice squad.

Davis signed with the Bears in March after spending his first four NFL seasons with the 49ers (2015-16) and Seahawks (2017-18). He appeared in seven games with one start, rushing for 25 yards on 11 carries and catching seven passes for 22 yards.

By waiving Davis, the Bears reportedly could gain a compensatory pick in the 2020 draft, possibly as high as the fourth round.

Nall originally signed with the Bears in 2018 as an undrafted free agent from Oregon State. He has spent the first season and a half of his NFL career on the team’s practice squad. Nall has impressed in the preseason with the Bears, producing a pair of 69-yard runs against the Bengals last year and versus the Colts this year.

Vaughters played in his first NFL regular-season game for the Bears last Sunday against the Eagles. He was waived the next day—the eighth time he’s been cut by an NFL or CFL team—but was re-signed to the practice squad on Tuesday.
