CHARLOTTE — Defensive end Brian Burns (thigh) was limited on Wednesday, but was able to finish practice after getting kicked.

"I think he'll be fine," head coach Matt Rhule said.

Burns was one of three limited players on the first injury report of the week. Starting right guard John Miller took fewer than his normal amount of reps with ankle/groin injuries. Defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos returned to practice for the first time since he suffered a concussion last Wednesday and was also limited.

Defensive tackle Kawann Short (foot) and left guard Dennis Daley (ankle) continue to be sidelined and did not participate on Wednesday. Both players were in red jerseys as the team stretched, but did not perform drills.

Rhule is hopeful Short will play Sunday against the Chargers, but noted the team won't rush him back. Daley's high ankle sprain initially had a four-to-six week timeline, and he's about three weeks into that. Rhule said what's more important to him than any timeline is that the players are full speed when they're deemed ready to play.
