ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos have added another piece to an increasingly deep defensive line.
Denver has agreed to terms with sixth-year defensive lineman Christian Covington on a one-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.
Covington, a former sixth-round pick, spent the first four years of his career in Houston where he appeared in 50 games and recorded 65 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss and 16 quarterback hits. Covington played defensive end in Houston's 3-4 system, which is the style of defense the Broncos play.
He then joined the Cowboys ahead of the 2019 season, and he appeared in all 16 games and made six starts. He posted a career-high 28 tackles and also recorded a sack, four tackles for loss and three quarterback hits.
Covington joins a defensive line that includes Jurrell Casey, Shelby Harris, Mike Purcell, Dre'Mont Jones, DeMarcus Walker, rookie McTelvin Agim and a handful of other players.
