"Real-life superhero stuff": Denver Broncos embrace family of late Fort Carson Green Beret Ryan Sartor (Paul Klee, The Gazette)

Sgt. Maj. Sartor died July 13 in a firefight in Afghanistan, his seventh deployment since joining the Army in 2001. His memorial service drew so many mourners it had to be moved to the Air Force Academy Cadet Protestant Chapel. The Broncos responded by hosting the Sartor family at training camp — widow Deanna Sartor, her parents David and Debora Unger, daughter Grace, son Garrett and Stryder, a junior at Falcon and a Cowboys fan (like his dad) turned Broncos fan after Sunday.

In Malik Reed, Broncos may have found their next undrafted gem (Nicki Jhabvala, The Athletic)

After more than a month of training camp and weeks of OTAs and minicamp, Reed no longer needs to state his name. The undrafted free agent from the University of Nevada has made his presence known on the field and in the eyes of the Broncos’ new coaching staff, who signed him after the draft, put him in a room with Von Miller and Bradley Chubb and watched him defy the odds so many put before him.

Safety Jamal Carter begins practicing at inside linebacker (Ryan O'Halloran, The Denver Post)

“I’ve been wanting to play this (since) high school and college,” [Carter] said. “I like being in the trenches. I’m a physical specimen, so I don’t like being too far away from contact. It’s going to fit me.”

Riddick out 6-8 weeks with shoulder injury (Mike Klis, 9NEWS)

The good news is that Riddick’s injury will not require surgery to repair. And while it does mean Riddick will miss the first two to four games of the regular season, the Broncos already have an experience third-down back in place in Devontae Booker.
