CHARLOTTE – The Panthers have re-signed running back Cameron Artis-Payne to a one-year contract.

Artis-Payne, the Panthers’ fifth-round draft choice in 2015, became an unrestricted free agent earlier this month. He has averaged a solid 4.2 yards per carry over his first four NFL seasons, which he spent backing up first Jonathan Stewart and then Christian McCaffrey.

"I'm excited. We have a lot of good players and I think we can make a serious run this year," Artis-Payne said. "I'm going to work as hard as I can possibly work, be in the best shape I can be in. I'll do what I need to do."

Used sporadically behind those workhorses, Artis-Payne has 118 career carries for 491 yards and five rushing touchdowns. Included in that is an 18-carry 85-yard, two-touchdown game in place of an injured Stewart early in the 2016 season. In 2018, he totaled 69 rushing yards on 19 attempts and had one rushing touchdown.
