General Manager Steve Keim upgraded several areas of the roster in free agency, but there is still work to be done. The Cardinals have 10 picks in this month’s draft, including No. 1 overall, as Keim aims to stock the roster for new coach Kliff Kingsbury. We will take a look at each position group heading into the draft, which will be held from April 25-27.

Players under contract: Ricky Seals-Jones, Charles Clay, Darrell Daniels

The Cardinals’ situation: The Cardinals swapped a pair of veterans this offseason, releasing Jermaine Gresham while inking Charles Clay in free agency. Seals-Jones and Clay sit atop the depth chart for a position group that could be in line for more targets with Kingsbury at the helm. Daniels was claimed on waivers last season and hopes to make a good impression in the offseason.
The draft class: It is one of the deeper tight end drafts in recent years, with the Iowa duo of T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant projected to go in the first round. Alabama tight end Irv Smith, Jr. and Texas A&M’s Jace Sternberger are other players expected to go early. There are different flavors of tight ends available depending on what a particular team is looking to add in the draft.
The conclusion: It’s unknown how Kingsbury plans to deploy the position group in 2019, but a receiving tight end seems like it would be a higher priority than one known for his blocking. The Cardinals are light on numbers at the position, so an addition seems likely. That could come early if the Cardinals’ brass likes the look of a prospect, or later on in order to boost the depth of the group.
