The Cardinals struggled in their pass defense Sunday during a loss to the Rams, and Monday, the fallout included the release of one of their main cornerbacks.

The Cards cut veteran Tramaine Brock, leaving Chris Jones or Kevin Peterson as the top choice as a third corner aside from starters Patrick Peterson and Byron Murphy. Brock was credited with eight tackles Sunday against the Rams, and had three pass breakups in 10 games this season. Brock had been inactive the two games before Sunday, once with a hamstring issue and once as a healthy scratch.

"Tramaine gave us some good games," Kingsbury said. "We're going to play some younger players. We're always looking to turn over the roster and improve."

Replacing Brock with Jones and Kevin Peterson combined is "what it looks like," Kingsbury said.

Rams quarterback Jared Goff threw for 424 yards Sunday, the second straight game the Cards had surrendered 424 yards passing to the opposing quarterback. Goff had 405 yards passing with 8:44 left in the third quarter. But Kingsbury emphasized the decision to let Brock go was not based on Sunday's game alone.

Also released was running back Zach Zenner, who was fourth on the depth chart after Chase Edmonds returned from his hamstring injury.

In terms of the running back room -- adding Edmonds to Kenyan Drake and David Johnson -- Kingsbury said the room will remain under evaluation every week based on the game that week.

"We are going to go with the guy we feel gives us the best chance to win (that week)," Kingsbury said. "It may be Kenyan one week, it may be Chase, it may be David. It's not settled in that department."

The team now has two openings on their 53-man roster.
