Indianapolis – For the 12th year, the Indianapolis Colts and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield will celebrate “Anthem Angels…Honoring Everyday Heroes,” Hoosier public and civil servants who have made community contributions beyond the call of duty, but may have received little public recognition.

One “Anthem Angel” is selected and notified prior to each regular season home game. Each “Angel” receives four VIP tickets, a feature story in the Colts gameday magazine (The Scout) and on Colts.com, as well as special recognition on the stadium big screen.

This week’s “Anthem Angel” is Frederick McDowell of Indianapolis.

Fred is the founder and coordinator of the Family Dinner Project at Riley Children’s Hospital, which supports the families of patients who are in the hospital during the holidays. The project arranges a festive holiday experience during this difficult time by providing a traditional holiday meal for families to sit down and enjoy together. For instance, each Thanksgiving Fred helps organize, cook, and serve nearly 700 meals for families at Riley’s Children Hospital.

He has worked with the project for the past 15 years. Fred believes that volunteering has helped him realize that supporting those around him is more important than anything else. He loves being able to make an impact on other people’s lives, especially with a project that he feels is extremely important.
