The last time Devon Kennard played at State Farm Stadium, he piled up three sacks in the first game for Kyler Murray.
The next time the outside linebacker is there will be for training camp, with Murray as a teammate, chasing quarterbacks for the Cardinals.
Cut by the Lions earlier this week, Kennard – who grew up just a few miles from the Dignity Health Arizona Cardinals Training Center, prepping at Desert Vista High School – agreed to a three-year contract, it was officially announced Thursday.
NFL Network reported the deal will be was for $20 million with $12.25 million guaranteed.
Kennard's father, Derek, was an offensive lineman for the Cardinals from 1986-1990.
Devon Kennard, a USC product, was a fifth-round pick of the Giants in 2014. He spent the last two seasons with the Lions, getting seven sacks in each season. He's a necessary piece for a defense that needs outside linebacker help across from Chandler Jones.
The 28-year-old will likely get the first shot at starting across from Jones, who had 19 sacks last season despite multiple players starting on the other side. The Cardinals also have Haason Reddick, Vontarrius Dora and Kyler Fitts on the roster.
