Former Colts WR Devin Funchess Reportedly Expected To Sign Free Agent Deal With Packers

INDIANAPOLIS — Wide receiver Devin Funchess, who played in one game for the Indianapolis Colts in 2019 before suffering a season-ending injury, is expected to sign a free agent deal with the Green Bay Packers, the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports.


Funchess, 25, was one of the Colts' key free agent signings last offseason, as he brought needed size (6-foot-4, 225 pounds) and playmaking ability to Indy's wide receiver corps opposite No. 1 wideout T.Y. Hilton.


Funchess would show just a glimpse of his potential in the Colts' offense, however. He logged three receptions for 32 yards in Indy's season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers before suffering a season-ending clavicle injury while attempting to make a leaping catch in the end zone during a key moment in the fourth quarter.


Funchess would eventually return to practice later in the season, but would end up reverting to injured reserve.


The Colts currently feature plenty of youth at the wide receiver position behind Hilton. Among top returners on the offseason roster are Zach Pascal, 2019 second-round pick Parris Campbell and Ashton Dulin; others who will be battling for spots include Rodney Adams, Malik Henry, Steve Ishmael, Artavis Scott and Chad Williams.


Daurice Fountain, an exclusive rights free agent who was having a standout training camp last year before suffering a season-ending ankle injury, could also return to the Colts in 2020.
