Moss among CBS Sports' top Thanksgiving moments

With today being Thanksgiving, visions of family, food and of course, football, come to mind.

There are a pair of games today with Houston at Detroit, followed by Washington at Dallas. And while Minnesota is not on the slate today, a certain former Vikings player is associated with the holiday.

Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports recently ranked his top 10 NFL moments on Thanksgiving, and included Randy Moss' eye-popping 1998 game as the sixth-best item on his list.

DeArdo wrote:

Three catches, 163 yards, three touchdowns. That was Randy Moss' Thanksgiving Day stat line against the Cowboys in 1998. A rookie, Moss was motivated to show the Cowboys what they were missing after not selecting him in that year's draft. Moss, who ended up catching an NFL rookie record 17 touchdown passes, undoubtedly proved his point after leading Minnesota to a 46-36 victory.

Moss ended his spectacular rookie season with 69 catches for 1,313 yards and the aforementioned 17 touchdowns.

The Vikings took him with the 21st overall pick after 19 different teams (the Bengals picked at Nos. 13 and 17) passed on the former Marshall standout.

Moss' big day against the Cowboys came when Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer was the Cowboys defensive backs coach.

"That was one of the worst days," Zimmer, with a chuckle, told Vikings.com in the summer of 2017. "The size and length that he had was unbelievable.

"It made it really difficult because you had to double team him on every play, but now you're opening things up in other areas," Zimmer added. "If you didn't pay attention to him, he'd beat you in a hurry. He was an unbelievable athlete."

Moss joined the Vikings Ring of Honor in 2017 and was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

He currently ranks second all-time with 156 receiving touchdowns, is fourth in NFL history with 15,292 receiving yards and is 15th overall with 982 catches.
