GREEN BAY – The first drive didn’t win the game, but it got the Packers off to the start they needed.
The Seahawks won the coin toss in Sunday’s NFC Divisional playoff and deferred their choice to the second half, which put the Packers’ offense on the field first.
All QB Aaron Rodgers and his mates did was execute a nearly flawless drive to get the Packers on the board and give them a lead they would never relinquish in the 28-23 triumph. As such, the eight-play, 75-yard march is the Chevy Drive of the Week.
The Packers started the game with what turned out to be their best running play of the day, as RB Aaron Jones burst through a hole on the left side and ripped off a 23-yard gain. A play-action pass to WR Davante Adams picked up 14 on the next snap, and the Packers were into Seattle territory.
Three snaps later, on third-and-8, Rodgers found TE Jimmy Graham on a crossing route for the first of Graham’s three third-down conversions in the game. The gain was 13 yards to the Seattle 23.
After RB Tyler Ervin took a reverse pitch and gained seven yards, the Packers had their one negative play of the drive, as Seahawks DE Jadeveon Clowney got into the backfield to drop Jones for a 4-yard loss. That brought up third-and-7 from the 20.
A great combination route on the left side by Adams and fellow WR Geronimo Allison actually got both players open, and Rodgers lofted an easy TD pass to Adams, the first of his two scores on the night.
