The Panthers officially signed offensive guard Michael Schofield to a one-year deal on Saturday.

Entering his seventh season, Schofield has started 66 of his 76 career games. Originally a Broncos' third-round pick out of Michigan, Schofield spent the last three seasons with the Chargers. Listed at 6-foot-6 and 301 pounds, he was a spot starter for five games at right tackle in 2017 before ascending to the full-time starting role at right guard the past two seasons.

Schofield is the second former Charger to join the Panthers this offseason, as the club also traded for left tackle Russell Okung. The moves reunite Okung and Schofield with offensive line coach Pat Meyer, who held the same position with the Chargers from 2017-19.

With the new collective bargaining agreement, signing Schofield now will not factor into the compensatory draft pick formula for next year.

In a corresponding move on Saturday, the Panthers cut running back Marcus Murphy. To view all of Carolina's recent transactions, click here.
