Wide receiver was one of the most intriguing battles heading into the preseason. Goodwin, Pettis, Samuel and Hurd appeared as locks in early August. The 49ers set on seven receivers as the team parted ways with veteran wideout Jordan Matthews. The 49ers will be without two of their key pass catchers to open the season. Third year wideout Trent Taylor, who was having a strong camp, is dealing with a foot injury while Hurd is nursing a back injury.
