The Bears on Thursday placed punt returner Dwayne Harris on injured reserve.
Harris sustained what is believed to be a torn triceps muscle in Monday night's loss to the Vikings. He was signed to the Bears' practice squad Oct. 27 before being elevated to the active roster and playing in three games, averaging 8.1 yards on 10 punt returns.
Harris averaged 10.7 yards on six punt returns in a Nov. 8 loss to the Titans, but he muffed his only punt return against the Vikings, resulting in a turnover deep in Bears territory.
Prior to joining the Bears, Harris appeared in 106 NFL games with 11 starts in nine seasons with the Cowboys (2011-14), Giants (2015-17) and Raiders (2018-19). He averaged 10.1 yards on 180 punt returns with four touchdowns and 25.8 yards on 163 kickoff returns with one TD. He has also caught 77 passes for 874 yards and eight touchdowns.
Anthony Miller excelled after replacing Harris versus Minnesota, returning two punts for 12 and 32 yards. But it's unclear whether Miller will continue in that role given his workload as one of the Bears' top three receivers along with Allen Robinson II and Darnell Mooney.
The Bears on Wednesday claimed return specialist DeAndre Carter off waivers from the Texans. In 39 career games with the Eagles (2018) and Texans (2018-20), he has averaged 9.5 yards on 59 punt returns.
