The Bears on Wednesday released veteran receiver/return specialist Ted Ginn Jr.
The 14th-year pro saw limited action in six games, catching three passes for 40 yards and averaging 4.8 yards on five punt returns. In last Sunday's loss to the Saints, Ginn was a healthy scratch for the second time this season.
Ginn became the Bears' punt returner after Tarik Cohen suffered a torn ACL in a Week 3 win over the Falcons. But Ginn was replaced in that role last week by free-agent acquisition Dwayne Harris, who averaged 5.7 yards on three punt returns in his Bears debut against the Saints.
Ginn, 35, signed with the Bears during the offseason. But he played on only 12 percent of the offensive snaps, in part because of the emergence of rookie fifth-round pick Darnell Mooney, who possesses a similar skill set.
