The Bears on Monday signed veteran running back Lamar Miller to their practice squad.

Miller, 29, has appeared in 105 NFL games with 89 starts over seven seasons with the Dolphins (2012-15) and Texans (2016-18), rushing for 5,864 yards and 32 touchdowns on 1,354 carries and catching 209 passes for 1,565 yards and 8 TDs. He was voted to the Pro Bowl with Houston in 2018.

To make room on the practice squad for Miller, the Bears released cornerback Stephen Denmark, a 2019 seventh-round pick from Valdosta State.

Miller was selected by the Dolphins in the fourth round of the 2012 draft out of the University of Miami. In three seasons as the Dolphins' regular starter from 2013-15, Miller rushed for 709, 1,099 and 872 yards.

The 5-10, 221-pounder signed with the Texans as a free agent in 2016 and made his Houston debut in a 23-14 win over the Bears in the season opener, running for 106 yards on a career-high 28 carries. Miller rushed for 1,073, 888 and 973 yards in three seasons with the Texans from 2016-18 before tearing his ACL in a 2019 preseason game.

Miller signed with the Patriots Aug. 13 but was released Sept. 5.

The Bears suffered a key loss in their backfield eight days ago when Tarik Cohen suffered a torn ACL in a win over the Falcons. David Montgomery leads the Bears in rushing this season with 218 yards on 53 carries, while Cordarrelle Patterson has added 62 yards on 18 attempts.

Other running backs on the Bears' active roster are former Oregon State teammates Ryan Nall and Artavis Pierce, an undrafted rookie.
